Faced with the prospect of a crowd of hostile gay activists in front of their party headquarters, the Conservative Party has once again done what they do best: put on a smiling face, and fudged the issue. George Osborne, the shadow chancellor of the exchequer *who has a better LGBT voting record than his boss) came out to scmooze with the protestors, and assured them that if elected, Daivd Cameron would “consider” the issue of gay marriage.

Has he not considered it already? After years of preparation for this election, has he still not decided what he stands for, and what we will be voting for? The simple truth is obvious: he wants our votes, so will offer a vague possibility of progress: but he want the votes of his party faithful even more, so he will never commit to the idea.

David Cameron will consider the case for same-sex marriage rights if elected as Prime Minister, George Osborne told gay campaigners.
The shadow chancellor, along with fellow frontbenchers Theresa May and Nick Herbert, met activists Peter Tatchell and Tamsin Osmond in a bid to boost the Conservatives’ appeal to gay voters.
The Westminster meeting came before a protest at the Conservative campaign headquarters, where campaigners were calling for shadow home secretary Chris Grayling to be sacked for homophobia.
